Dutch champions Ajax and Belgian league leaders Club Brugge have reached an agreement on the transfer of coach Alfred Schreuder to Amsterdam, both clubs announced on Thursday.
Schreuder will sign a two-year contract with an option for a third year after this season at Club Brugge, with which he is set to capture the Belgian title. He succeeds Erik ten Hag, who secured his second consecutive Dutch championship with Ajax on Wednesday. Ten Hag leaves Ajax by the end of this season for Manchester United.
49-year-old Schreuder was previously active as assistant coach to Ten Hag at Ajax from January 2018 until 2019. He moved on as head coach of Hoffenheim, was then assistant to Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona and started as head coach of Club Brugge in January 2022.
"Becoming head coach at Ajax is an honor and a great opportunity, that I will grab with both hands," Schreuder stated in a press release by Ajax. "I'm also excited to return here because I enjoyed the one and a half years I've worked at Ajax very much. I wish to win prizes here in Amsterdam, with a team that plays attractive football."
"But first I want to end the season with Club Brugge successfully," Schreuder added. "I want to say goodbye with a title, that is very important to me and I will do my absolute best to accomplish that."
